2006
Milano, Galleria Artelier

Exhibition Poster.
Walls are
testaments, legible texts, to our desire to divide and
separate. And to preserve.
Paintings like cities are constructions: pieces of canvas
like bricks, heaped up with color, threads, glue, besieged
with cuts and breaches, attempts to enter.
Paintings like bodies are barriers: veined tenderly within,
cut and scarred, violated, written on by time. Human walls.
What can be read here, all the walls of human history, of
Jewish history? A ghettoized people has always had an
exquisite sense of walls, enclosed in exile, in lager and
gas chamber, marginalized by walls of ignorance and hate, of
power and fear of the Other. To construct the wall paintings
is to reenact the experience of history and at the same time
to witness it.
